A Goed Intent, West Bank Demerara man has been remanded to prison for murdering his 62-year-old mother.
Devon Anderson, 32, was not required to plead to the indictable charge which alleged that between November 25 and 26, 2020, he murdered Jennifer Anderson in the course or furtherance of a robbery.
The murder accused appeared before Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrate’s Court.
He was remanded to prison until January 14, 2020. Reports are that Devon, who resided with his mother and niece, is a drug addict and was in the habit of stealing things from her.
Police Headquarters said that the woman and her granddaughter were both assaulted by Devon. The child after suffering injuries was able to alert her uncle who rushed to the scene.
The elderly woman was found lying motionless in her bedroom and was taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
It was reported that after killing his mother, Devon fled the scene. He was later found at a Georgetown hotel with a quantity of cocaine and marijuana.
