QUARTET TO SERVE MORE THAN 11 YEARS FOR KIDNAPPING AND KILLING BUSINESSMAN
Four men were on Tuesday, November 24, 2020 each sentenced to serve 11 ½ years in jail after admitting to killing kidnapped businessman Rajendra Singh.

Deonauth Ketwaru, Tony Thomas, Michael Lewis, and Adony James were charged with the April 2014 murder of Singh whose body was found with a gunshot wound to the head in the Le Repentir Cemetery.
The men, however, opted to plead guilty to the lesser count of manslaughter after they were brought before High Court Judge Navindra Singh.
Media reports are that Singh was held at gunpoint and kidnapped from his business place at Foulis on East Coast Demerara on April 5, 2014.
A multi-million dollar ransom was being demanded for his safe return. But his body was discovered four days later in the cemetery with his hands bound and a gunshot wound to his head.
Having considered the men’s early guilty pleas and expression of remorse, Justice Singh sentenced each of them to serve 11½ years behind bars.
The prison authorities were ordered to deduct the time the men spent on remand awaiting trial from the time of their arrest back in 2014.
