The Police are investigating an incident which occured at the Ocean view Specaility Hospital Liliandaal, East Coast Demerara resulting in the death of Kevin Smith, age 29 yrs, a sanitation worker of Lot 1365 Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara
Enquires discloses that the Speciality Hospital is currently under construction and is used as the Covid-19 building.
The construction is been done by R.O.K. Construction where they have several employees employed with them cleaning the building including the now deceased. On 2020-11-08 about 08:00hrs the now deceased reported for work where he began to clean the lower flat of the building, while other employees were cleaning the third flat.
About 13:00 hrs he was asked by one of the workers on the third flat to bring a dust pan and broom for her. He then used the stairs and walked up to the third flat where he delivered the dust pan and broom to the staff. However after delivering the items, the now deceased decided to use the metal lift that is to the northern side (externally) to go down instead of the stairs and in doing so the cord for the metal lift burst causing the lift to go down at a fast rate of speed, injuring the now deceased in the process.
He was subsequently rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital by an ambulance where he was seen by a Doctor on duty but died while receiving treatment. According to the Doctor, the victim would have suffered severe internal injuries as a result of the fall.
The body is currently at the Georgetown Public Hospital Mortuary awaiting post mortem.
