CONTRACTOR WHO SHOT COUPLE FOR TURNING ON BRIDGE PLEADS GUILTY TO MANSLAUGHTER

The well-known Contractor who fatally shot a Kitty father of one and injured his girlfriend, for turning their vehicle on his bridge pleaded guilty to the lesser count of manslaughter. He appeared before Justice Navindra Singh at the High Court on Tuesday.


Robert Benn admitted that on August 23, 2016, he killed 25 year-old Collin Pereira, and discharging a loaded firearm at Galeann Chacon, Pereira’s girlfriend, with intent to commit murder. 


Before Justice Singh, Benn opted to plead guilty to the lesser count of manslaughter. He was sentenced to six and a half years’ imprisonment. He also pleaded guilty to the charge for attempted murder committed on Chacon. The Judge sentenced him to serve four years imprisonment. The two sentences are to run concurrently with the time spent in pre-trial custody to be deducted.


Police in a statement said that on the day in question, Pereira was driving a heavily-tinted vehicle with his girlfriend, Chacon, in the passenger seat when they attempted to turn the vehicle around using Benn’s bridge. Benn, who was in his yard at the time, drew his licensed handgun and discharged several rounds at the vehicle, hitting Pereira and Chacon about their bodies.
