Guyanese students currently in Grades 10, 11, and 12 will return to a classroom setting from November 9 of this year. This is according to Minister of Education Priya Manickchand who made the announcement on Saturday at NCERD.
According to Minister Manickchand, the reopening of school is in keeping with the preparatory work needed with students who will sit the CSEC and CAPE examinations in 2021. Technical and vocational schools will also be reopened.
Minister Manickchand further noted that students will be subjected to social distancing regulations in and out of classrooms during the school period.
“Once we begin face-to-face schooling, we may have to adjust our school term and we may have an extended school week, and we may have to do rotations for students and teachers… This holds true” The minister said.
She further stated, “These are difficult times, and no measure will be perfect, but we must ensure that we work to ensure that we don’t lose educationally. With all the attendant consequences thereof.”
