Condemns acts of violence against police officer.
Police officers in recent times have become victims to various forms of assault by members of the public. But the acts of violence have been dealt with condignly through the courts.
Home Affairs Minister Robeson Benn during the commissioning of the Brickdam Police Lock-ups, used the opportunity to condemn acts of violence against policemen and women.
Minister Benn said, “Policemen cannot responsibly do their duty if people feel if they can run out and attack policemen violently with weapons and knives, fist, cuffs and all those things. I am asking the policemen, to take reasonable precaution, to protect themselves”
Benn implored that Guyanese must be reminded of the role of peace officers . He noted that unlawful assault of peace officers has dire consequences.
“We don’t want us going back to situations where policemen were shot, even at the gate of this police station and at other places. Let those be the bygone days.” Benn said.
