Minister of Public Works, Juan Edghill on Wednesday announced the appointment of Stephen Thomas, as the new Director General of the Maritime Administration Department (MARAD). Thomas replaces Ms. Claudette Rogers, who is now Advisor on Maritime affairs.
The new Director General served over three decades in the ports and maritime sector. The majority of that time was spent being a senior officer with the Transport & Harbours Department (T&HD) and the Maritime Administration Department.
Thomas also served as Cadet, Mate and Captain on T&HD and other companies’ vessels. He possesses intimate knowledge of the various maritime and riparian communities.
As Habour Master, Thomas was responsible for the management of all the Harbours in accordance with the Transport & Harbours Act and also assisted the department in the areas of surveying their vessels, investigations, training of shipboard crews, and generally advise management.
