Police on an anti-crime patrol on Monday night in the Montrose, East Coast Demerara district managed to intercept and seize more than 100 pounds of marijuana that was found in a car that was left abandoned by an unknown suspect.
The police in a statement said, “Ranks observed a blue CRV motor vehicle parked at the Montrose Seawall and thus approached same. As they approached, an unidentifiable male ran into the mangroves and escaped.”
It was further revealed that ranks further investigated the contents of the vehicle and discovered two bags containing several parcels of compressed leaves, seeds and stems, suspected to be cannabis.
It was further stated, “The bags were found in the rear seat of the vehicle… The suspected narcotic was weighed and it amounted to 112.75 pounds.”
The vehicle and narcotics were taken to the Sparendaam Police Station where it was processed for fingerprints but none was found. The search for the suspect has commenced, according to the police.
