There is now a clear understanding as to how Head of State, Dr. Mohammed Irfaan Ali, plans to spend his much talked about and anticipated multi-million-dollar stimulus package.
During the Annual General meeting of the Private Sector Commission, President Ali told businessmen that government would be providing a $25,000 relief package to Guyanese households who were adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The president however did not expound on how the Government plans to distribute the assistance. It is also unclear whether or not the assistance will be provided in cash or hampers; taking into consideration the challenge of social distancing.
Meanwhile, the President told the Private Sector that the international community, including the British and the Americans has assisted Guyana greatly in the fight against the virus.
He said, “I want to thank them sincerely. They are breaking down the barriers and they are trying to get us access to resources as quickly as possible.”
