HOMESTRETCH ACCIDENT CLAIMS LIFE OF SENIOR PRISON OFFICER

The family of 38 year-old Prince Cox was thrown into a state of disbelief Monday morning after he was killed following an accident on Homestretch Avenue Monday morning. Cox was a Chief Prison Officer in the Guyana Prison Service.

Inquiries disclosed that the motor car was proceeding west along the southern side of the road and the X-Trail was proceeding east along the northern side of the said road. Both vehicles were approaching CANU Headquarters. The motor car while overtaking a line of vehicle ended up in the path of the X-trail and as a result pulled further north in an effort to avoid a collision.” the police said.

Despite his efforts, the front of the X-trail collided with the left side front door and fender of the motor car resulting in both drivers as well as occupants of the motor car, Prince Cox and a 22-year-old, Prison Officer of West Ruimveldt, Georgetown receiving injuries about their bodies.

According to the police, “They were picked up and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation where Cox was pronounced dead; the drivers of both vehicles and the other occupant of the motor car were admitted at the said hospital and are receiving treatment.”

The body is at the hospital’s mortuary awaiting an Post Mortem Examination.
