The former army captain who was recently sentenced to life imprisonment for killing his reputed wife Reona Payne is seeking the help of the Appeal Court to have his life sentence reduced.
Orwin Sandy is of the opinion that the life sentence handed down to him by Justice Sandil Kissoon was harsh, especially since he pleaded guilty to the lesser count of manslaughter.
Back in April 2018, Sandy shot Payne a total of 14 times with his service weapon to her body, killing her immediately in West Ruimveldt before surrendering himself to the police. Sandy had originally pleaded insanity but was later deemed fit to stand trial for the murder of Payne in 2018.
On August 04 at the Supreme, Justice Sandil Kissoon sentenced Sandy to serve life with the possibility of parole after serving 20 years in prison.
